If you often imagine private hospitals when you think of plastic surgery, then forget it now. Now the facility of plastic surgery is being provided in an even better way in government hospitals of Delhi. Recently, on World Plastic Day, Delhi’s RML Hospital has created a new record in the plastic surgery marathon started in government hospitals of the country. Here, teams of doctors have performed 24 plastic surgeries in 24 hours between July 15 and July 16.

RML Hospital’s Burn and Plastic Department performed 24 plastic surgery operations in 24 hours in the Plastic Surgery OT Marathon. During this, a team of 17 surgeons provided a quality life to a patient by giving him a new hand in 24 operation theatres and corrected the eyebrows of another patient.

The hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Ajay Shukla said that by performing 24 difficult plastic surgery operations in a single day, it was observed how maximum number of surgeries can be performed by coordinating different departments like surgery, anesthesia, OT etc. So that if ever the need arises, such a setup can be prepared and the best facilities can be provided.

Additional Director Dr Manoj Jha said that a six-year-old girl’s damaged right hand was reconstructed after a burn in 24 complex surgeries, in which skin was also transplanted from one place to another. A patient’s toe was cut and successfully attached to the hand. A girl’s facial wounds were repaired through plastic surgery. A 58-year-old woman’s right eyebrow was repaired through excision procedure.

Dr. Samik Bhattacharya, Director and Professor, Department of Plastic Burn, Maxillofacial and Microvascular Surgery, said that after performing surgery on 24 needy people, the hospital is trying to keep itself prepared for any emergency situation.
