The Jharkhand Assembly Speaker on Thursday disqualified two MLAs under the anti-defection law. The order will be effective from July 26. The order to disqualify Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)’s Lobin Hembrom and Congress’s Jaiprakashbhai Patel from the House came on the eve of the six-day monsoon session of the Assembly starting from Friday. An official said that JMM had raised the demand to initiate proceedings against Lobin Hembrom and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Jaiprakashbhai Patel under the anti-defection law.

Hembrom contested as an independent from the Rajmahal Lok Sabha seat and challenged JMM’s official candidate Vijay Hansda. JP Patel joined the Congress before the Lok Sabha elections and contested from the Hazaribagh seat. However, both lost the elections. The official said that the Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato gave the decision on Thursday.

All party meeting before monsoon session

Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahato held an all-party meeting on Thursday to ensure smooth functioning of the House during the monsoon session proposed from July 26 to August 2. This session is the last meeting of the House before the assembly elections in the state later this year. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Minister Rameshwar Oraon, AJSU Party MLA Lambodar Mahato, CPI (ML) Liberation MLA Vinod Singh were present in the meeting. The BJP kept away from the meeting.

CP Singh arrived late in the meeting

The Assembly Speaker said that Ranchi MLA C.P. Singh arrived late. His arrival has led to speculation that he may have been made the party’s representative for this meeting. Mahato said, “I hope the proceedings of the last session of the current assembly will go on smoothly.”
