A major accident was narrowly averted when a temporary gate collapsed at Mamata Banerjee's event in Kolkata, two people injured

New Delhi. Two people were injured when a temporary gate collapsed at an event in Kolkata recently. The incident happened just half an hour before West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was to arrive at the venue. The event was held at Dhandhanya Auditorium in memory of actor Uttam Kumar. The injured were immediately rushed to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital and the situation is now under control. Despite the mishap, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the function, which continued as planned. The event was organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs to commemorate the 44th death anniversary of legendary actor Uttam Kumar.

Video of the incident surfaced

A video of the incident has surfaced, which shows an injured being taken into an ambulance. During the event, Mamata Banerjee was to present Mahanayak Awards to various film personalities. Since retaining power in 2021, the Trinamool Congress-led state government has been observing the death anniversary of West Bengal’s most popular actor. Born on July 24, 1980, Uttam Kumar is remembered for his iconic films such as “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam” (1956), “Harano Sur” (1957) and “Saptapadi” (1961).
