A sailor is missing after a fire broke out on the Navy’s warship ‘INS Brahmaputra’ in Mumbai port. The INS Brahmaputra caught fire on the evening of July 21 when it was being repaired at the Navy’s Mumbai port. The ship’s crew controlled the fire by this morning with the help of firefighters. But due to the fire, the ship tilted to one side in the sea water. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi has also informed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh about this incident. Rajnath Singh discussed the loss caused in this incident and prayed for the safety of the missing sailor.

The Navy has said that despite all efforts, the ship could not be straightened. The ship is tilting even more near its berth i.e. anchor. At present, it is leaning on one side. The Navy has said that all the personnel have been traced except a junior sailor of the ship. The search for the missing sailor is on. The Indian Navy has ordered an investigation into the accident.

INS Brahmaputra is the first guided missile warship built in India. The Brahmaputra ship has a crew of 40 officers and 330 sailors. It is said that the weight of this ship is approximately 5,300 tonnes. Its length is 125 meters and width is 14.4 meters. This warship is equipped with medium range and anti-aircraft guns. It also has ground-to-ground and ground-to-air missiles and torpedo launchers.

INS Brahmaputra has been part of several major military operations. In July 2006, Brahmaputra was part of the task force of Operation Sukunk. Also during July 2009, Brahmaputra was part of the Indian Naval Task Force on deployment to Europe. This task force participated in joint exercises with the Royal Navy and the French Navy.

A similar incident happened in 2016. At that time INS Betwa capsized in Mumbai’s naval dockyard during repairs. 2 sailors died in this incident.
