In HT’s news, officials said that there have been many such reports in which youngsters go to the gym and consume protein supplements to build their body. They do not take any advice from doctors for this. The protein supplements available in the market are not even certified. Due to this, sometimes kidney failure occurs. In such a situation, DHHS is going to issue a new guideline regarding protein supplements soon. An official said that usually youngsters do not know how to use this product. Therefore, the purpose of this guideline is to tell the youth how much harm is caused by the use of protein supplements without thinking. Through this guideline, the misuse of protein supplements is to be stopped.

Risk of non-communicable diseases

Earlier, the Indian Council of Research ICMR and the National Institute of Nutrition had also issued guidelines in which it was warned against taking protein supplements. The guideline said that protein supplements can cause kidney damage, dehydration and imbalance of nutrients in the body. In the 148-page guideline, ICMR had warned against the use of protein supplements for body building. The guideline specifically prohibits the use of protein powder. Actually, protein powder is whey protein which contains branch chain amino acids BCAAs, which increases the risk of non-communicable diseases. That is, the risk of many chronic diseases including BP, diabetes increases, but the youth are not aware of this. Actually, the whey protein used by gym goers improves performance very quickly and also removes fatigue, but research has proved that BCAA amino acids can cause liver disease and insulin resistance. At the same time, weight can also fall rapidly. Therefore, whey protein should not be consumed without the advice of doctors.
