Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is busy with the increasing demand for the latest premium mid-size sedan – the Slavia and the upcoming Vertus in the market. The carmaker said the high demand for both the models has forced it to start the third shift at its Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The Skoda Slavia, which was launched in March, has garnered an impressive response with over 10,000 bookings within the first month and over 2,500 units sold in March alone.
Volkswagen to launch in India on June 9 The Vertus was unveiled last month. With the Slavia, Vertus aims to rejuvenate the premium mid-size sedan segment, which is currently Honda City , maruti suzuki ciaz And Hyundai Verna Like the dominance of established rivals.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said, “The start of the third shift at our Pune facility is a testimony to the overwhelming response to the cars launched under VW Group’s India 2.0 project. Skoda Kushak and Volkswagen taigun has been well received by our customers.” The company is also gearing up to expedite the deliveries of Skoda Slavia. Skoda had said during its launch that it was aiming to sell around 3,000 units of the Slavia every month.
“With the third innings, we have roped in additional manpower to help us meet the growth in demand, which we see on both the domestic and export front. We are confident that we will continue on the growth path set in motion by Volkswagen. group in the year 2021,” Arora said.
The Chakan facility in Pune is home to Volkswagen Group brands which include Skoda, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini apart from VW. The facility, spread over 540 acres, is where Skoda and Volkswagen manufacture their cars for India and export. These include the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun SUVs apart from the Slavia and the upcoming Virtus. The group also has a manufacturing facility at Shendra in Aurangabad. The facility has seen a growth of 76 per cent with 21 new launches and six luxury electric vehicles in the market.
