Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that top officials of automobile companies have promised him that they will start manufacturing flex-fuel vehicles within 6 months. Gadkari said that the government is working on a plan to run public transport from 100% clean energy source.

He said that this week, I had a meeting with the managing directors of all the major automobile companies and representatives of SIAM. He promised me that he would start manufacturing flex-fuel engines for vehicles that could run on more than one fuel.

Flex-fuel is an alternative fuel prepared from a mixture of gasoline and methanol or ethanol. He said companies like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto have already started manufacturing flex-fuel engines for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

How do flexible fuel vehicles work?
These flexible fuel vehicles are fitted with all the same equipment as in regular cars. But some special equipment has also been installed in it. It has an electronic control module. It precisely controls the fuel mixer, ignition timing, emission system, operation of the vehicle and problems encountered in the vehicle. These vehicles have a special fuel tank, which has the capacity to hold two fuels.

Flexible Fuel Cheaper Fuel Options
Oil as a fuel is a limited source. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative to it. In such a situation, flex fuel is an important option. Fuel shortage can be overcome by using petrol and ethanol in combination. It is also cheaper than conventional fuel.
