South Korean car company Kia recently launched a new MPV ‘Carens’ in the Indian market. Kia Carens has managed to woo the customers. Meanwhile, the demand for CNG vehicles has increased amid rising prices of petrol and diesel. According to the latest media reports, Kia is going to bring a CNG version of its Karens MPV.
Recently, a picture has been leaked online, in which a CNG tank can be seen in the boot of Kia Carens. It could be a testing vehicle. Its registration sticker also reveals that it will be powered by a 1.4-litre, turbocharged, inline-4 petrol engine. There is currently no car in the Indian market with a turbocharged petrol engine with a CNG option.

This 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 140 PS of maximum power and 242 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox. There could be a slight reduction in the power figure with the CNG option. Apart from this, the CNG variant will probably only be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.
