Maruti Suzuki has some big plans for the Indian market. Over the next few years, the Indo-Japanese plans to expand its SUV portfolio with a range of new models along with several new generation and facelift versions of the existing products. Here is a complete list of upcoming Maruti cars in India in 2022 and 2023.
1. Maruti Swift CNG
Maruti Suzuki is testing the CNG version of the Swift hatchback. The company has already launched the new DZire CNG, which comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a factory fitted CNG kit. Except for the CNG badging on the tailgate, there will be no design changes on the new model. It will be powered by the same 1.2L petrol engine + CNG kit. This engine generates power of 76.43bhp and torque of 98Nm. The claimed DZire CNG can return over 31 km/kg, and the same is expected to happen with the new Swift CNG.
Maruti Suzuki’s popular sub-4 meter SUV – Vitara Brezza – will enter its second generation in mid-2022. The new model is most likely to retain the existing Global Sea platform. Not just the platform, the SUV will retain the overall profile, body and door panels. Major changes will be made inside the cabin as it will get an all-new dashboard, bigger touchscreen infotainment system and new instrument console.
It will come equipped with high-end features like wireless connectivity, e-SIM based connected car tech, wireless charger, sunroof, cruise control and many more. The SUV will also get 6 airbags and a reverse camera. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid system. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
3. New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
The new generation Alto 800 will be one of the upcoming Maruti cars, which are scheduled to be launched this year (2022). Like the all-new Celerio, the 2022 Maruti Alto 800 is likely to be designed on Suzuki’s new Heartect platform. The new architecture is claimed to improve the vehicle’s power-to-weight ratio, handling and NHV levels. Special changes will be made in its exterior and interior. The hatchback can get a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. If offered, it could be reserved for the top-end trims. For power, the new Alto 800 will use a 796cc naturally aspirated petrol motor mated to manual and AMT gearboxes. It is also likely to get a 1.0-litre DualJet petrol engine that powers the new Celerio.
4. New Maruti Suzuki MPV
Suzuki and Toyota joined hands to develop a range of new models for the Indian market. Next on our list of upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars is one of the jointly manufactured vehicles – a new C-segment MPV. The model will be based on the FWD (front-wheel-drive) monocoque platform. It is likely to be offered with two petrol engines – one with a mild hybrid system and the other with a stronger hybrid system. In the company’s product lineup, the new Maruti Suzuki MPV will sit atop the Ertiga and lock horns against the Toyota Innova Crysta. This will be a Nexa exclusive product.
5. Maruti Suzuki Jimny
The Indo-Japanese carmaker will bring the 5-door Jimny to India by 2023. This is definitely one of the much awaited upcoming Maruti cars in the country. The model (codename – YWD) will be offered with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid system that is good enough for 103bhp and 136Nm. The 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system is likely to be standard across all variants of the compact off-road SUV. It can be mated to a manual or automatic gearbox. Rumors have it that the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny may be re-branded as the new generation Maruti Gypsy. It will be sold through the brand’s premium Nexa dealership. The 5-door Jimny is likely to be based on the Jimny Sierra which made its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
6. Maruti Mid-Size SUV
Next on our list of upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars is a mid-sized SUV that will be jointly designed and developed with Toyota. The plant at Toyota Bidadi in Karnataka will serve as the production hub for the new Maruti SUV. It will be challenged by Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq cars. Its length will be around 4.3 meters and it will be on Toyota’s DNGA platform. The DNGA architecture has been designed for small cars that pursue fuel efficiency, affordable pricing and safety. The new model will come with two petrol engines – a 1.5L NA with a mild-hybrid system and a 1.5L NA with a stronger hybrid system. It is reported to arrive during the festive season before Diwali.
7. New Maruti coupe SUV
The Indo-Japanese carmaker is working on a compact crossover that will sit below the Vitara Brezza in the company’s product The Indo-Japanese carmaker is working on a compact coupe SUV that will sit above the Brezza in the company’s product lineup. It will be based on the HEARTECT platform and is likely to be the production version of the Futuro-e concept. The company showcased the Futuro-e concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will compete with the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. The new coupe SUV will be powered by a robust hybrid system.
8. Maruti C-Segment SUV
The Indo-Japanese automaker is preparing a new 7-seater SUV that will be positioned against the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. It is expected to arrive as a replacement for the Suzuki XL6 and will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. The new SUV could be a 7-seater version of the upcoming mid-size SUV.
9. Maruti Electric SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota will jointly launch a new electric vehicle in the Indian market by 2025. If reports are to be believed, the first EV from Maruti Suzuki will be a mid-sized SUV and will measure around 4.2 meters in length. Suzuki-Toyota is developing a separate derivative of the JV 40PL platform, codenamed 27PL. The platform will be used to develop a wide range of family EVs starting from compact cars, MPVs or SUVs. The first mid-sized electric SUV will be based on the 27PL. The electric vehicle will receive the battery pack from TDSG, a large-scale battery manufacturing joint venture between Suzuki, Denso and Toshiba.
10. Maruti Baleno CNG
Next on our list of upcoming Maruti cars is the CNG variant of the new Baleno hatchback. The company has already launched the ICE version of the new Baleno.
