Giving information today, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the government is making 6 airbags mandatory in all vehicles. Responding to a question by Congress MP KTS Tulsi in Rajya Sabha, Gadkari said, “Six airbags will be mandatory even for the economic model.”
Gadkari said, “Electric vehicles should be produced according to the safety standards set by the government. India’s safety standards for electric vehicles are like global standards.”
Gadkari also told the House that five lakh road accidents take place in India every year, resulting in the death of around 1.5 lakh people. The first meeting of an advisory committee of Members of Parliament attached to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways was held on March 24 to discuss various issues related to safety standards. Which was presided by Gadkari.
