Carmakers in India have released the sales numbers for April 2022. While most brands have reported a drop in sales due to lack of chips, domestic automakers and a few other brands have managed to double their sales.

maruti suzuki sold 1,21,995 units in April 2022, registering a year-on-year sales decline of 10.22 per cent. In the same month last year, Maruti sold 1,35,879 cars in the country. The company reported a decline of 8.86 per cent in month-on-month sales.
Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level cars – Alto and S-Presso – saw a sharp drop in sales. The company sold 17,134 cars in the Mini segment in April 2022, compared to 25,041 in the same month last year. The compact segment cars of the brands including Baleno, Celerio, DZire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR also witnessed a steep decline in sales. The company sold 59,184 compact cars in April 2022, compared to 72,318 cars sold in the same month last year.
Hyundai Sales April 2022
Hyundai is facing a shortage of semi-conductor chips and parts, which has affected its production as well as sales. The company reported a 10% drop in sales in the month of April 2022. Hyundai sold 44,001 cars in April 2022, compared to 49,002 cars in the same month last year. The company had sold 44,600 cars in March 2022 as the month-on-month sales decline is marginal.
While domestic sales declined, Hyundai improved its exports. The company has exported 12,200 cars in April 2022 as compared to 10,201 cars in the same month last year; Registering an annual growth of 19.60 percent.
Tata Sales April 2022
Riding on the success of the new range of SUVs, Tata Motors has managed to double its sales in the Indian market. It is expected that the company can soon beat Hyundai and take the second position in the list of top brands in the country.
In the domestic passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors posted a massive 66% year-on-year growth. The company sold 41,587 passenger cars in April 2022, compared to 25,095 cars sold in the same month last year. However, the company’s MOM sales declined marginally by 1.67%.
Tata sold 39,265 internal combustion cars in April 2022, a 60% increase over the same month last year. In the electric vehicle segment, Tata sold 2,322 cars in April 2022. The company had delivered 581 cars in the same month last year.
Toyota Sales April 2022
Toyota has also registered a massive sales growth of 57% in the month of April 2022. The company sold 15,085 cars in April 2022, compared to 9,600 cars sold in the same month last year. However, Toyota’s MoM sales declined by 11.94%. The company delivered 17,131 cars in March 2022.
Mr. Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales and Strategic Marketing, TKM said, “Demand is peaking in the new financial year, as we close the month of April with an overall growth of 57% on wholesale sales in April 2021 . with. Along with Crysta, Fortuner and Legend, Camry Hybrid has also received very encouraging booking orders. The ‘Cool New Glanza’ has also received an overwhelming response and has performed extremely well since the commencement of its delivery from Tier I cities to rural markets in March this year.
