New Delhi. Delhi Police has recovered an SUV vehicle belonging to BJP President JP Nadda’s wife from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, almost two weeks after it was stolen from a ‘service centre’ in Delhi’s Govindpuri. The officers provided this information. He said that three vehicle thieves have been arrested in the case, who have been identified as Shivansh Tripathi (23), Salim (34) and Mohammad Raees (33), residents of Uttar Pradesh. Police said that the white colored Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Govindpuri in south-east Delhi on March 19, when its driver Joginder had left it at the service center and returned home for some time.
Police said the SUV is registered in the name of Nadda’s wife in his home state Himachal Pradesh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Dev said, ‘One of the accused is a car thief while the other two used to transport stolen cars from one state to another. With his arrest, another stolen car used in the theft was recovered from his possession.’ He said that the investigation was started after Joginder lodged an e-Principal at Govindpuri police station. The DCP said that ‘the case was transferred to the Anti-Vehicle Theft Squad of Southeast Delhi and a team was formed. During the investigation, the team analyzed footage from multiple CCTV cameras and reached Badkhal in Faridabad, Haryana.’
He said that they received information that Shivansh Tripathi and his gang were allegedly involved in this case and the first breakthrough came on March 22 when the team caught him near Patiala House court. Police said that Tripathi, a resident of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, had left studies after class 10 due to the poor financial condition of his family. Police said that to meet his daily needs, he started stealing luxury cars from Delhi-NCR with the help of a gang. He was earlier also involved in several cases of vehicle theft.

The officer said that during interrogation, Tripathi told the police that he had committed this theft along with his associate Shahid, a resident of Badkhal, Faridabad, in Giri Nagar of Govindpuri, his son-in-law Farooq, a resident of Chandan Hola in Delhi, and another person Shahkul. The DCP said that after stealing the SUV, they allegedly took it to Farooq’s farmhouse in Faridabad, from where it was sold to Salim, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri. He told that Salim used to buy stolen luxury cars. He said that Salim was caught and during interrogation he told that he sold the vehicle to another person named Mohammad Raees, who later sold it to another person. DCP said that after investigation, the police recovered the SUV from Varanasi. He said that ‘with the arrest of all the accused, two cases of vehicle theft have been solved.’
