The company is looking to ramp up production due to rising demand for Tata Motors Electric Vehicles (EVs). A senior Tata Motors official said the company has been getting an average of 5,500-6,000 bookings every month for its electric vehicles in the last two months. In view of this, the company is preparing to increase the production of its electric vehicle. In the last financial year, Tata Motors has been the top player in the passenger electric vehicle segment in the domestic market.

The company sells three electric vehicles in the domestic market, the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Xpress-T. Tata Motors also recently took the wraps off a coupe-style SUV, which it plans to introduce in the next two years. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Passenger Vehicles and Electric Vehicles, Tata Motors, said that due to the huge demand for electric vehicles, a large number of orders from customers are still pending.

Chandra said about the demand for electric vehicles, “The demand for vehicles is much more than the supply, which we are not able to meet right now. The company has received an average of 5,500-6,000 EV bookings per month in the last one or two months. However, last month the company has been able to supply only half of the demand i.e. 3,300 to 3,400 vehicles.

Chandra said the company is trying to increase the capacity by increasing the supply of semiconductors. According to FADA, Tata Motors has sold 15,198 electric passenger vehicles in the financial year 2021-22. The company has a market share of 85.37 percent in this segment.
