New Delhi. Government employees will now be able to participate in the programs of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The Modi government has lifted the ban imposed 58 years ago. In 1966, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had banned government employees from participating in the programs of the Sangh. Now an order has been issued by the Union Home Ministry in this regard on 9 July. According to this order, the orders of 30 November 1966, 25 July 1970 and 28 October 1980 have been amended, in which government employees were banned from participating in the programs of RSS.

While issuing the 1966 order in this regard, the then Congress government had argued that the RSS is politically influenced, so participating in its programs can affect the neutrality of the employees. After this, when the Janata Party government was formed, this law was repealed, but when Indira Gandhi returned to power again in 1980, it was implemented again. At the same time, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya welcomed this decision of the central government and wrote on social media, the Modi government has withdrawn the unconstitutional order banning government employees from participating in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh 58 years ago in 1966. The original order should not have been passed in the first place.

Amit Malaviya alleged that the ban was imposed because on 7 November 1966, a massive anti-cow slaughter protest took place outside Parliament. The RSS-Jana Sangh gathered support in lakhs. Many people were killed in police firing. On 30 November 1966, hurt by the influence of the RSS-Jana Sangh, Indira Gandhi banned government employees from joining the RSS.
