Helping the Indians

The ministry said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and associate high commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna are assisting in the repatriation of Indian nationals. “The Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with the concerned Indian authorities to ensure smooth passage of Indian nationals at ports and airports,” the ministry said in a statement. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said on Friday that there are around 15,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, including 8,500 students. Violent clashes continue in Bangladesh.

Know the decision of the Supreme Court

Meanwhile, let us also tell you here that, Bangladesh’s top court has now given its verdict on this entire matter and reduced the reservation in government jobs. This is being seen as a big defeat for the government, because the government was not ready to withdraw its decision on reservation. The Supreme Court has said in its decision that 93 percent of government jobs should be allocated on the basis of merit based system and the remaining seven percent should be left for the relatives of those who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and other categories. Earlier, there was up to 30 percent reservation in jobs for the relatives of those who fought the war. But the Supreme Court has rejected the government’s decision. This is being seen as a big victory for the students.
