Washington: Joe Biden has taken a big decision regarding the presidential election in America. Biden has decided to withdraw from the presidential race. Biden’s decision has been praised by all five Indian-American lawmakers. Three of them have given their support to Vice President Kamala Harris as the possible candidate of the Democratic Party for the post of President. Biden (81) announced on Sunday that he would not contest the upcoming presidential election and he has approved the name of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential candidacy from the Democratic Party. There are about 100 days left for the presidential election in America.

‘Defeat Donald Trump and make history’

There are currently five Indian-American lawmakers in the House of Representatives – Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Shri Thanedar, Pramila Jayapal and Ami Bera. All of them belong to the Democratic Party. So far, three of them – Khanna, Thanedar and Jayapal – have supported Harris (59). Harris is the first Indian-American citizen to become Vice President. Supporting Harris, Jayapal said in a post on social media, “Support Kamala Harris for President. Let’s defeat Donald Trump and make history.” He also spoke to Harris over the phone.

‘Proud to support Harris’

Khanna said, “I am proud to support Kamala Harris as our candidate. Her strong candidacy as the first African American woman and the first Asian American will energise our party. Our party can now move forward with a message of hope and a vision for the future.”

‘Respect Biden’s decision’

In a statement, Thanedar said he had no doubt that President Biden would defeat Trump. “But I respect his decision and fully support him in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. She will be an excellent candidate and president,” he said.

Virginia State Senator Suhas Subramaniam also announced his support for Harris. Montgomery County Commissioner Neil Makhija said, “I am proud and excited to support Vice President Kamala Harris for this historic occasion after President Biden announced his withdrawal from the Democratic Party’s nomination.”

‘Don’t be fooled’

Meanwhile, Hindu-American former Congress member Tulsi Gabbard said that Kamala Harris is the “new, nominal leader of a government with a secret and unauthorized network” and will prove to be “extremely dangerous” in the role of head of government. Gabbard asked the countrymen to vote for Republican Party’s presidential candidate Donald Trump. She said in a video, “Biden is out, Kamala Harris is in. Don’t be fooled, policies will not change. Just like Biden did not have the power to take decisions, Kamala Harris will also not have it.” (Language)
