Rudraprayag: Many devotees died in a sudden accident on Sunday morning. It is being told that this accident happened at around 7:30 am today. The accident happened when debris suddenly fell from the hill on the walking path leading to Shri Kedarnath Dham, about 3 km ahead of Gaurikund. This accident happened at a place called Cheervasa. It is being told that the devotees were walking on foot, during this time debris and stones fell from the hill above. Many pilgrims died due to being hit by the debris.

The injured were admitted to the hospital

As soon as the information of the accident was received, the Gaurikund Police Outpost and the DDRF teams reached the spot. The rescue teams found that 3 people died and 8 people were injured after being hit by the debris falling from the hill. All the injured were immediately sent to the nearest health center Gaurikund with the help of stretchers. The search operation is still going on. It is believed that some other people may also be under the debris. At present, it has been learned that all the above mentioned devotees were going from Gaurikund to visit Kedarnath Dham. Meanwhile, debris fell due to a landslide near Chirwasa and all these people became victims of the accident.

Search operation continues

The SDRF team reached the spot and took immediate action and rescued 08 injured. All the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. 03 persons died on the spot. The SDRF team handed over the bodies of the deceased to the district police. Search operation is still going on at the spot. (Input- Inder Bisht)
