The government has procured 69.24 lakh tonnes of wheat in the Rabi marketing season so far at minimum support price (MSP) for about Rs 14,000 crore. “The procurement of wheat in the Rabi marketing season 2022-23 has started recently in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan,” a government statement said. ‘
69.24 lakh tonnes of wheat procured
Rabi marketing season runs from April to March. However, the maximum procurement of wheat takes place between April and June. “As on April 17, 69.24 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured, benefiting 5.86 lakh farmers with an MSP price of Rs 13,951.41 crore,” it said.

The MSP of wheat has been fixed at Rs 2,015 per quintal. Punjab has contributed 32,16,668 tonnes, Haryana 27,76,496 tonnes and Madhya Pradesh 8,98,679 tonnes to the total procurement. It said that the procurement of paddy at MSP from farmers in the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) of 2021-22 is going on smoothly. The Kharif marketing season runs from October to September.

754.08 lakh tonnes of paddy procured
According to the statement, “754.08 lakh tonnes of paddy (including Kharif crop 750.95 lakh tonnes and Rabi crop 3.14 lakh tonnes) have been procured in the states and union territories up to April 17, 2022 in the Kharif marketing season 2021-22. So far around 108.90 lakh farmers have been benefitted with an MSP price of Rs 1,47,800.28 crore.”
