India has sent the fourth consignment of 2,000 tonnes of wheat to the people of Afghanistan through the land route of Pakistan as part of humanitarian assistance. India sent its first consignment of 2,500 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan via Pakistan on February 22 and reached the Afghan city of Jalalabad on February 26. The consignment was dispatched in fifty trucks.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Tuesday that India has so far sent 8,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as part of humanitarian assistance. He tweeted, “Our partnership continues. Fourth convoy of 2,000 tonnes of wheat humanitarian assistance was sent to Afghanistan today. A total of 8,000 tonnes of wheat has been dispatched till date.”
Positive response from Pakistan
India sent a proposal to Pakistan on 7 October, seeking transit facilities to send 50,000 tonnes of wheat to the people of Afghanistan via Pakistan, and on 24 November received a positive response from Pakistan. Following the Pakistani response, the two sides were in touch to finalize the modalities of transportation of the export consignments.
