Controversy over covering mosques and tombs with tarpaulin
Haridwar: The controversy over identifying places by writing their names on the dhabas on the Kanwar Yatra route has not completely subsided and questions are being raised on another decision of the administration in Haridwar. This time the mosques and tombs on the Kanwar route were covered with tarpaulin. After the controversy escalated, the administration removed the curtains from the mosques and tombs in the afternoon. Two policemen arrived and removed the curtains. The administration was unable to give an answer as to why the mosques were covered.
Let us tell you that a big tarpaulin was put up on the gate of the mosque located in Ramnagar Colony of Jwalapur and the mazar located near Durga Chowk. However, before this, the mosque and the mazar have never been covered during the Kavad Yatra.
Maulana raised questions on the administration
The caretakers and maulanas of the shrine and the mosque are unaware of this decision of the administration. They say that they have not been consulted in this regard. Whereas for many decades, Kanwariyas have been passing through here and they also rest in the shade of the tree outside the shrine. Earlier, people used to have tea and water here.
The caretaker of the shrine said these things
Shakeel Ahmed, the caretaker of the shrine, said that he has been seeing people carrying Kanwar for the last 40 years. There has never been any dispute. This time for the first time the administration has covered the shrines and mosques. Don’t know what their intention is. Shakeel said that this decision of the administration is not right.
Minister Satpal defended the administration’s decision
Administrative officials are avoiding talking about this matter. However, Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj says that mosques and tombs have been covered so that the Kavad Yatra runs smoothly. Care has been taken to ensure that there is no excitement or flare-up during the Kavad Yatra. He said that even when there is construction work, it is covered. Let’s see what feedback we get. We will study it.
