Do you also think that dialysis cures kidneys? Then you are wrong, former AIIMS doctor gave the answer

You must have often heard about patients suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease that a certain patient is on dialysis. He is taken to the hospital for kidney dialysis two or three times a week. It is so important that there cannot be a gap of even a day for dialysis because it can cause serious problems to the patient. But if you also think that dialysis cures kidneys, then your thinking is wrong. According to health experts, the job of dialysis is not to cure the kidney.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, who was the head of the Department of Nephrology at AIIMS New Delhi and is currently the chairman of Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Medicine at Marengo Asia Hospital, says that it is important to understand that dialysis is not a treatment for kidney disease, but the work that kidneys do in the body, dialysis does that work in case of its not working or disease. If dialysis stops, then the work of the kidney also stops.

Dr. Agarwal says that now the question is whether the kidney gets cured after dialysis, so keep in mind that dialysis does not have any effect on the kidney, the kidney gets cured only with treatment. However, if there is acute kidney failure, that is, due to some reason the kidney has suddenly stopped working and dialysis has to be given, then it can be cured with treatment, but if there is chronic kidney failure, kidney transplant has not been done and kidney dialysis is being done, then it has not happened in medical science yet that after dialysis in chronic disease, the kidney gets cured and dialysis is removed.

How many days can a patient survive on dialysis?
Dr. Sanjay says that how long a patient survives after dialysis depends on many factors. There are many such patients in Delhi AIIMS itself, who did not undergo kidney transplant, but have been undergoing kidney dialysis for the last 10-15 years and are still alive. In foreign countries, the survival period on dialysis is 20-25 years. However, it depends on the individual condition of the patients.

The life of the patient depends on these 3 things
Medical condition of the patient- Dr. Sanjay Agarwal says that if there is chronic kidney disease and the kidney is on dialysis, then it is not possible to stop dialysis. However, this is not the case in acute kidney failure. In such a situation, how long the patient will live after dialysis also depends on whether the patient has any heart disease or any other disease, it can show different effects on different people.
