The process of promoting the teachers working on the post of Associate Professor in the state and aided degree colleges of the state has been started. On the orders of the government, the chairman of the selection committee has been nominated.
This process has started for the first time after the mandate to give professor designation in degree colleges also. Earlier only principals were given the professor designation. Now under the Career Advancement Scheme, instructions have been given to constitute a selection committee at the college level for promotion from Associate Professor (Academic Level 13A) to Professor (Academic Level 14). The concerned regional higher education officers have been nominated as the chairman of the selection committee for the government colleges. On the orders of the government, the Director of Education (Higher Education) Dr. Amit Bhardwaj has issued an order in this regard. The selection committee will send the list of qualified teachers with its clear recommendation to the government.
A selection committee has also been constituted for aided colleges. The teachers applying for the promotion will have to fulfill the University Grants Commission (UGC) conditions as given in the Academic Performance Indicators (API). The applicant must obtain the necessary API marks for promotion, with specific qualifications set aside.
Teachers’ organizations protesting against the process
The teacher organizations of degree colleges are opposing the conditions imposed in the mandate related to promotion. Their biggest objection is regarding the qualifying date. Professor designation will be given in the year 2021 from the date of issue of mandate, while many teachers are eligible for promotion from years in advance. The Lucknow University Teachers Association (Luacta) has already registered its protest over this. Luacta President Dr. Manoj Pandey says that the conditions for promotion to the post of professor in colleges have been made more stringent than in universities.
