KV Revised Guidelines: The Central Government has decided to abolish the MP quota for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas. According to the revised guidelines by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan for the academic session 2022-23, MPs will no longer be able to make recommendations for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas. Apart from special provision for the employees of the Ministry of Education, dependents on MPs and children of employees working or retired in Kendriya Vidyalayas, the discretionary quota of the Chairman of the School Management Committee etc. has also been removed.
KV Guidelines: Scheme implemented in the year 1975
543 Lok Sabha MPs and 245 Rajya Sabha MPs could collectively recommend 7880 students for admission every year under this quota. This scheme was implemented in the year 1975. Earlier also this scheme has been withdrawn twice. However, it was later restored.
KV Guidelines: MPs could recommend so many students
Through this quota, each MP could recommend 10 students for admission from class 1 to class 9 at the beginning of the academic session. As per the rules, MPs could recommend only those students whose parents are residents of the MP’s constituency.
KV Guidelines: Admissions exceeding the prescribed limit
According to the official information, in the year 2018-19, there were 8164 admissions under the MP quota, crossing the prescribed limit. At the same time, 7301 admissions took place during the academic session 2021-22. Earlier, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had banned admissions for education ministers through discretionary quota. There were 9411 admissions in this category in the year 2019-20 and 12295 in 2020-21.
KV Guidelines: These students will get priority
Special provisions have been retained for admission to Kendriya Vidyalayas for children of recipients of Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra. Apart from this, this provision has also been continued for recipients of National Bravery Award, 15 children of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) employees, children orphaned due to COVID-19 etc.
