New Delhi. Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday demanded immediate withdrawal of the question paper and apology from the Board and the Ministry of Education, calling a passage in a question paper of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination as anti-women, in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Sonia Gandhi said, “I would like to draw the attention of the government to the outrage across the country over an unpleasant and regressive thought unread passage in a question paper of CBSE Class X examination on December 11 last. I want.
He also quoted two of his sentences in English, referring to the passage, which states, “Women’s freedom is the main cause of many social and family problems” and “Wives do not listen to their husbands” Because children and servants are undisciplined.” The Congress president claimed that the entire passage contains similar deplorable thoughts and the questions asked below are equally insensitive.
Taking strong objection, he said that it shows poor standard in education standards and tests and is against a strong and progressive society. Sonia Gandhi said that the Ministry of Education and CBSE should apologize in this matter and the said question paper should be withdrawn immediately. He said that a thorough review should be done so that this never happens in future.
The Congress President also demanded the Education Ministry to review the standards of gender equality in the curriculum. After this, members of Congress, DMK, IUML, NCP and National Conference demanded a reply from the government on this subject in the House, although Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla rejected the demand saying that he cannot start any new tradition. After this the members of these parties staged a walkout from the house.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has sparked controversy following allegations that passages in the Class 10 English question paper allegedly promoted “gender stereotypes” and supported “regressive notions”. Due to this, the board had sent the matter to the experts of the subject on Sunday. The CBSE on Monday removed passage-based questions from the Class 10 English exam following a controversy over gender stereotypes and said full marks would be given for it.
