On the eve of International Women’s Day 2022, the central government has launched a big scheme for girls. An initiative has been started by the Union Ministry of Education and the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development to re-connect the girl students who have dropped out of school due to various reasons. A senior official associated with the ministry said that the Central Government has launched the Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav scheme on Monday to bring back the out-of-school girls in the education system.
Indevar Pandey, Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development said that so far only four lakh out-of-school girls are coming to Anganwadis for nutrition, education and skill development programmes. Addressing the programme, Pandey said that the Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav scheme is being launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in partnership with the Ministry of Education. He said that since the enactment of the Right to Education Act, the main goal has been to bring back out-of-school girls in the education system.
Secretary Indevar Pandey said that we are preparing a program for the drop-out girls, which will be conducted by the Anganwadi under the supervision of the education officers at the district and block levels. He said, this is needed because the response to the Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG) was getting less.
Pandey said that in 2018-19 there were 11.88 lakh girls who were beneficiaries under the SAG scheme and in 2021 the number came down to 5.03 lakh. In our new scheme under Saksham Anganwadi, we will take only girls in the age group of 14 to 18 years. At the same time, girls in the age group of 11 to 14 years will not come under the Anganwadi system in the new schooling, which will take care of only the northeastern states and all our aspirational districts.
Pandey expressed hope that within a short span of time, we will reach a stage where we will be able to re-include out-of-school girls in the formal schooling system. He said that attention is being given to boys and girls to get quality education. We are making constant efforts to ensure that no child, especially girls, is deprived of the right to education.
