Jio Miami Film Festival to run from March 15 to March 22
Mumbai, (IANS)| Global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined as the chairperson of The Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) film festival. It was announced on Tuesday. He was nominated unanimously by the Board of Trustees of MAMI including Nita M. Ambani (Co-Chair), Anupama Chopra (Festival Director). The board also welcomed two new members, acclaimed filmmaker Anjali Menon and noted filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka said, “I am very proud to play the role of Chairperson of Jio Miami Mumbai Film Festival. I am really looking forward to working with these powerhouse ladies, Isha Ambani, Anupama Chopra, Smriti. ” I have hit the road with ideas and plans for such a changed world in such a short period of time. We are all consuming film and entertainment in very different ways now and in the process, we have expanded the footprint of the cinema that we watch.
“I have always been a huge supporter and believer of films from across India and we hope to create a strong platform to showcase Indian cinema to the world.” Adapting to a new paradigm, Jio Miami 2.0 will have an extended timeline. Instead of a weeklong film festival, Jio Miami is now scheduled to run from October 2021 to March 2022. In addition to Dial M for Films, it will conduct select digital screenings from October to January as part of the year round programme.
The hybrid version of the festival will take place in March depending on how the COVID-19 situation unfolds in India. The tentative dates for the celebration are from March 11 to March 15, 2022.
