Los Angeles, Sep 20 (IANS)| Actress Elisabeth Moss starrer “The Handmaid’s Tale” set a record for the most losses at the 73rd Emmy Awards. The series had a total of 21 nominations, which were expected to win some awards between the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmy ceremonies. Instead, the dystopian drama also lost all of its awards, according to a Variety.com report, setting the record for the most losing series in a single year.
Only three shows earned more nominations than Hulu’s flagship series, with Netflix’s “The Crown” and Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” receiving 24 nominations and “WandaVision” receiving 23 nominations. Also, like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” landed with 21 nominations, but only managed to pick up a handful of awards between ceremonies. Other shows that were left empty handed in Emmy history include “Northern Exposure” and “The Larry Sanders Show”.
In 2017, “The Handmaid’s Tale” won an Emmy Award for Drama Series, making it the first streamer to win the major award. Following which the series was nominated for the award in 2018 and 2020.
