Johnny Lever was born on 14 August 1957 in Kanigari, Andhra Pradesh. It is said that from the very beginning, Johnny was fond of watching films and working in films. Before entering Hindi cinema, he used to perform on stage. He used to mimic the actors exactly during this period.
Johnny Lever was a master at mimicking film stars. His specialty gave him the opportunity to do stage shows. Sunil Dutt caught sight of him in one such stage show. He got Johnny Lever’s first break in the film ‘Dard Ka Rishta’ and today the series has reached more than 350 films.

After ‘Dard Ka Rishta’ he was seen in ‘Jalwa’ opposite Naseeruddin Shah, but his first big success started with ‘Baazigar’. After that he was seen as a comedian in almost every film as a supporting actor. His first feature film in Tamil is ‘Anabrikku Allavillai’.
Johnny was named after the company ‘Hindustan Lever’. Actually, Johnny’s father used to work in this company and sometimes Johnny also used to go to his office with his father. Here Johnny often used to mimic film actors during some program in the office and he used to make people laugh a lot. In such a situation, people started calling Johnny Johnny Lever. Going ahead, he kept the name here and then Johnny took entry in Hindi cinema with the same name.
Due to his excellent work, he has been nominated for the Filmfare Best Comedian Award 3 times. At the same time, he has also been awarded the Filmfare Best Comedian Award twice. He got one award for the film ‘Deewana Mastana’ and one for ‘Dulhe Raja’.
