Inflatable theater installed at NSD Ground, Leh at a height of 11562 feet
Leh, (IANS)| Actor Pankaj Tripathi shares his thoughts on setting up of an inflatable theater in Leh (Ladakh) by mobile digital movie theater company PictureRtime Digiplex. He says: What a beautiful initiative. Cinema reaches out to people in the interior of this country. For someone like me who belongs to the film world, this is a unique and different medium of film exhibition – ‘A Moving Theatre’. It is absolutely incredible to have such a concept in a grand location like Leh.
Established at a height of 11,562 feet, this theater has become the first ever moving cinema theater in the Union Territory of Ladakh. An inflatable theater was installed at NSD Ground in Leh on Sunday. The chief guest of the event was Thupstan Chewang, President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, while actor Pankaj Tripathi was the special guest. A short film titled ‘Sekool’ (a film about the Changpa nomads of Ladakh) directed by Stanzin Tankong was screened at the theatre’s launch, receiving an overwhelming response. The director and cast of the film were also present.
Special screening of recently released film ‘Bell Bottom’ will also be organized for Army and CISF in the evening Offering digital movie screening on a large screen with Dolby 5.1 surround sound in DCI compliant mode, which has a seating capacity of around 150 people. In view of the current COVID protocol, the theater will currently have around 75 seats, which will require social distancing with suitable distance between the theater seats and the dividers between the seats.
It will also be an ambient control theater using state-of-the-art heating facility within the inflatable theatre. Sushil Choudhary, Founder & CEO, Picture Time Digiplex says, “Rishti has always been to reach the dark places of entertainment in this country. Ladakh was missing on the big cinema screens for a long time and I always wanted to bring it in. A multiplex cinema viewing experience for the people here. I am very grateful to the Government of Ladakh for trusting us. We aim to set up two fixed cinema screens and one moving cinema screen in Ladakh in the next thirty days, and citizens here will also have access to newly released films from Ladakh.
On what the presence of these cinemas means for Ladakh and its citizens, said Thupstan Chewang, President of the Buddhist Sangha of Ladakh, it has always been a very popular destination for film shootings. As you all know, Ladakh is one of these. Most deserted parts of the country. We are mostly cut off from the rest of the country in half a year, so it is very important for all of us to have a source of entertainment in the form of cinema.
