The veteran producer and director of Hindi cinema, Prakash Jha has achieved a big position in the industry on the basis of his hard work. Born on 27 January 1952 in Champaran, Bihar, Prakash Jha joined Ramjas College, Delhi University after completing his early studies from Sainik School Tilaiya. To fulfill his dream of becoming a painter, the director decided to leave his graduation midway and come to Mumbai.
After reaching Mumbai, Prakash Jha joined JJ School of Arts and got busy honing his painting skills. One day he saw the shooting of the film ‘Drama’ going on in Mumbai. He enjoyed it so much that he changed his intention to become a painter and started moving towards becoming a director. Prakash Jha started his film career with the film ‘Hip Hip Hurray’. After this he did ‘Death Dand’, ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’, ‘Chakravyuh’, ‘Gangajal’, ‘Pariksha the Final Test’, ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, ‘Rahul’, ‘Mungerilal’s beautiful dreams’, ‘Dil Kya Kare’. It is said that at the beginning of his career, Prakash Jha did not have money to pay rent and stomach. During an interview, Prakash Jha, while narrating the story of his struggle, said that there was a phase in his life when he had only 300 rupees in his pocket. Due to his passion, his relations with family members also got spoiled, due to which he stopped taking money from family members too. In such a situation, he had to spend many nights on the footpath of Juhu Beach in Mumbai. Not only this, but Prakash Jha did not even talk to his family members for about 5 years.
Talking about Prakash Jha’s personal life, he married actress Deepti Naval in 1985. But after 17 years of marriage, both got separated. Both had adopted a daughter, whose name is Disha. Disha Bhai does film making work like her father. Apart from films, Prakash Jha also ventured into politics. He has contested elections thrice. In 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Champaran. He was defeated in this election. Prakash Jha gave Ajay Devgan a chance in most of his films. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Jha groomed Ajay’s career. Both of them worked together in films like Gangaajal, Politics, Abduction, Satyagraha. The film Gangaajal also received many National Awards.
