It has been 33 years since the great showman Raj Kapoor said goodbye to this world, but many of his tales are as famous today as they were in those days. Recipient of three National Awards and 11 Filmfare Awards, Raj Kapoor acted in the Hindi film ‘Inquilab’ for the first time at the age of 10. He was a filmmaker, director and actor of the golden age of Indian cinema. He ruled the film industry for nearly four decades.
This great personality of the film industry established his own studio ‘RK Studio’ at the age of just 24. Raj Kapoor, who is called the show man of Hindi cinema, made many such films which were well-liked by the audience. The industry got a different direction from his films, Raj Kapoor had shown boldness in films. Today we are going to share with you an anecdote related to the film Prem Rog, which was released 39 years ago. In which Rishi Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure were seen in lead roles. During the shooting of the film, as soon as Rishi Kapoor proposed, Padmini slapped him 8 one after the other.
Actually, in an interview, Padmini told how she used to slow down by taking her hand near Rishi’s cheek, but the film’s director Raj Kapoor asked her to slap her hard. Recalling the shooting of Kolhapure, Padmini said, ‘I remember the scene of slapping. I had to slap Rishi Kapoor and as is often the case in action sequences, I synchronize the slap scene with the action. But Raj’s (Kapoor) uncle didn’t want that, he wanted me to slap him, and then he said ‘No no you slap. I want that real shot’. Then Chintu told me ‘you go ahead and slap me’

Recalling this scene, Padmami says, ‘In the first take, my hand would go on his cheek and slow down, but then Raj uncle says – no, I do not want such a light slap. Then we have to take some 7-8 retakes in that shot. something went wrong. I had to slap 7-8 times because of camera, light or technical issues. What would have happened to me if I was slapped like this?
Let us tell you that Prem Rog (1982) was a romantic film in which Rishi Kapoor played the character of Dev and Padmini Kolhapure was in the character of widow Manorama in the film based on the love story. God loved him immensely. The film was produced by Raj Kapoor and scripted by Jainendra Jain and Kamna Chandra. The film was critically acclaimed and the film grossed a lot. It was the second highest grossing film of that year after Vidhata.
