Shimla: Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours have disrupted normal life. Due to heavy rains, 15 roads have been closed for vehicular traffic. Along with this, the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rains at different places for the next four days i.e. till July 28. The 15 roads which have been closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy rains include 12 in Mandi, two in Kinnaur and one in Kangra district. Apart from this, 62 transformers in the state have also been affected.

Intermittent rain in many parts of the state

The Meteorological Department has also warned about damage to orchards and crops, weak and kutcha houses in the state due to strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying areas. According to the Shimla office of the India Meteorological Center, intermittent rain occurred in many parts of the state.

Baijnath received the highest rainfall of 85 mm

Baijnath recorded the highest rainfall of 85 mm in the 24-hour period from Tuesday evening, followed by Palampur (25.2 mm), Jogindernagar (18 mm), Dharamsala (10.4 mm), Hamirpur (8 mm), Paonta Sahib (7.6 mm), Sainj and Kahu (7.5 mm each), Kasauli (7.4 mm) and Shimla (5.6 mm).

So far 49 people have died in rain related incidents

The Emergency Operations Centre said 49 people have died so far in rain-related incidents in the state and the monsoon, which began on June 27, has caused losses of about Rs 389 crore. Tribal district Lahaul and Spiti’s Kukumseri was the coldest on Tuesday night with a temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius, while Una was the hottest during the day where the temperature was recorded at 36.4 degrees Celsius.
