T20 World Cup Trophy

The Indian team won the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa by 7 runs. The T20 World Cup was organized on the soil of West Indies and America. Now the International Cricket Council has formed a three-member committee to review the T20 World Cup held last month. Former New Zealand batsman Roger Twose and two other ICC directors Lawson Naidu and Imran Khwaja have been included in it.

The committee will submit its report to the board this year

According to the ICC press release, the ICC Board confirms that there will be a review of the organization of the ICC T20 World Cup. This will be done under the guidance of three directors Roger Twose, Lawson Naidu and Imran Khwaja and they will submit their report to the board this year. It is understood that the ICC has lost more than two million dollars on organizing matches in New York, Florida and Dallas. It has been learned that the budget allocated for the American leg of the tournament was about US $ 150 million and it was found that the budget increased significantly, which some influential board members of the global body objected to.

Poor quality ‘drop-in’ pitches, ticketing system and logistics issues have added to ICC’s troubles. It is also believed that the role of several top officials will also be thoroughly investigated. ICC’s tournament chief Chris Tetley has already resigned. USAC, the governing body of cricket in America, has been formally put on notice and given 12 months to comply with ICC’s associate membership eligibility.

16 teams will participate in Women’s T20 World Cup 2030

The ICC also confirmed that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030 will be a 16-team tournament instead of 12. The cut-off date for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier was also confirmed as 31 October 2024. The CEC approved the appointment of Paul Reiffel to the Cricket Committee as a representative of the Elite Panel.
