Lahore: Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to undergo polygraph (a type of lie detector test) and voice matching test as part of the Lahore police’s investigation into dozens of cases linked to the May 9 riots last year. A 12-member forensic team reached Adiala Jail on Tuesday to conduct a polygraph test of 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan. There were nationwide riots on May 9 last year when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was arrested in a corruption case. Imran Khan is facing more than 200 cases and has been in jail since August last year.

The Express Tribune reported that a team of Lahore Police led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police had reached Adiala Jail to conduct the (polygraph and voice matching) test. According to the newspaper, experts from the Punjab Criminal Investigation Science Agency (PFSA) were also with them. These PFSA experts were to conduct the polygraph, voice matching test and ‘photogrammetry’ test of the former Prime Minister.

The Nation newspaper reported that the PTI founder answered police questions for 15 minutes but refused to undergo polygraph and other tests conducted by a team of the Punjab Criminal Investigation Science Agency. According to this newspaper, Imran Khan said that he is being investigated by various organizations and he will give time to the police only after the previous investigation is completed.

Information given to DIG Lahore

Dawn newspaper reported that police officials questioned him about various aspects related to the May 9 riots. Lahore Corps Commander’s residence, military establishments and public properties were targeted during the May 9 riots. According to the newspaper, after returning from jail, the police team and PFSA experts informed Lahore DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Asghar about Khan’s non-cooperation. Now the matter will be discussed in a meeting of senior police officials in consultation with the prosecution department to formulate a strategy for the next visit. (Language)
