Professional establishments and markets remained closed in Dombivali city of Maharashtra on Thursday to protest against the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and roads remained deserted.
Three brothers of the relationship of Dombivali in Thane district, Sanjay Lele (50), Hemant Joshi (45) and Atul Mone (43) were among the 26 people killed in the terrorist attack on Tuesday.
Due to the shutdown against this attack, the roads of the city appeared deserted on Thursday, which usually have heavy traffic.
Most auto-rickshaws, buses and private vehicles were absent from roads and most of the commercial establishments were also closed.
Small groups of people were seen talking on the Pahalgam attack at some streets and roads of the city.
Various shops, offices and local markets started closing from Wednesday afternoon to protest against the terrorist attack and express solidarity with the families of the victims.
The public voluntarily followed this bandh supported by all major political parties and civil groups.
A local resident said, “Those who are responsible for this terrorist attack should be punished severely so that there are no such attacks again.”
An official of the Thane Police Control Room said that the bandh has been peaceful so far.
Thousands of people attended the funeral of the residents of Dombivali killed in the attack on Wednesday evening.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reached Bhagashala Maidan to pay tribute to the dead. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravindra Chavan and local Shiv Sena MP Srikanth Shinde were also present with him during this period.
Slogans were raised against Pakistan during Fadnavis offering a wreath and many people demanded a complete ban on all Pakistani products.
