No interference in religious functioning
Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while keeping the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, 2025, also said that through this the government and the Waqf Board will not interfere in any religious functioning of any religious institution including the Mosque. He dismissed the claims of the opposition parties against the Waqf Amendment Bill, saying that in 1995 when a comprehensive law was enacted with several amendments, no one said that it is unconstitutional and illegal. Rijiju said, “If we are improving it today, it looks unconstitutional.
Waqf properties will be controlled
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this law is being introduced to take out the assets of Waqf. He said that the purpose of this amendment bill is to catch the people who rent Waqf for a hundred years at a quarter to one price. Shah said, “Waqf board will do the work of catching this money that is stolen.” He targeted the opposition parties and said that the connivance that is going on (for Waqf’s land) will no longer go. The Home Minister said, “They say that do not account for (Waqf’s property), but it is for the poor of the country and not to steal Dhanna Seths.” Shah claimed that within four years of taking the form of the law, Muslim brothers will know that this law is in their advantage.
SP and Congress said that problem will increase
SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav said in the Lok Sabha that the government brought the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to cover up his failure and it is the “political stubborn” of the ruling BJP and “a new form of communal politics”. Taking part in the discussion on the bill, he said that issues related to Waqf which were to be decided have not been given importance in this bill. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday alleged in the Lok Sabha that the government is eyeing the land of a particular community. He claimed that there will be increased litigation in the country if the current Waqf law is amended. He started the discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the House, saying that he is not doing that amendment is not needed, but should be amended and “We are not against it.” Gogoi said, “It should be to strengthen the law but this bill will increase further problems in the country, the issues will increase and the litigation will also increase.”
