Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met a delegation representing those who were killed in the Chhattisgarh massacre in 2000 on Saturday and promised a thorough investigation into the terrorist attack.
An official spokesman said that the Lieutenant Governor gave this assurance during a conversation with a delegation of ’35 Shaheed Singh Welfare Organization ‘, Chhattisgarh at Raj Bhavan. The delegation was headed by the president of the organization, S Jagjit Singh.
He said that members of the delegation demanded a fresh investigation into the massacre of 35 Sikhs in Chhattisinhpura Anantnag on March 20, 2000.
The spokesman said, “He also raised various welfare issues related to the families of the martyred citizens, including compassionate appointment under SRO-43, expansion of the same benefits of non-resident Kashmiri Pandits; reservation in admission to various courses in government universities/colleges and financial assistance for the construction of a memorial in Chhattisgarh Anantnag.”
He said that the Lieutenant Governor reiterated his commitment to bring justice to the families affected by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesman said, “He assured that a thorough investigation would be done and justice will be found.”
The spokesman said that Sinha assured that the eligible family members will get appointment on compassionate grounds and will also get financial assistance for self -employment.
Lashkar-e-Taiba militants killed 35 Sikhs on March 20, 2000 in Chhattishpura village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. The incident took place a day before the then US President Bill Clinton’s visit to India.
