Indian Hockey Team: India’s experienced goalkeeper and former hockey team captain PR Sreejesh has said that the Paris Olympics will be his last international tournament. The Indian hockey team won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Then Sreejesh played an important role in getting the medal. India ended the medal drought after 41 years. This time there is hope of a medal from the hockey team led by Harmanpreet Singh.

PR Sreejesh wants to change the colour of the medal in Paris Olympics

Star goalkeeper PR Sreejesh said in a release issued by Hockey India that I am preparing for my last tournament in Paris. I am very proud of my career and looking forward with hope. My journey so far has been good and I am always grateful for the love and support of my family, teammates, all coaches, fans and Hockey India. Thank you for believing in me. My teammates have stood by me in difficult times. We all want to give our best here in Paris. Definitely want to change the color of our medal.

Hockey India congratulates Sreejesh

PR Sreejesh has played a total of 328 matches so far. Hockey India congratulates PR Sreejesh for his stellar career. Hockey India has launched a campaign ‘Win It for Sreejesh’ for the national team which will inspire the players to stand on the podium again. Sreejesh made his debut for the Indian team in 2010. He was a member of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games and the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games. He was a member of the joint-winning team of the Asian Champions Trophy in 2018, the gold medal-winning team of the 2019 FIH Men’s Series Finals in Bhubaneswar and the silver medal-winning team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Sreejesh has received the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award

PR Sreejesh played a key role in India finishing third in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2021-22. Sreejesh was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021 and is only the second player from India to win the ‘World Games Athlete of the Year’ 2021 award. He won the FIH ‘Goalkeeper of the Year’ award twice in a row in 2021 and 2022.

Hockey India President Dr Dilip Tirkey congratulated Sreejesh on his stellar career and said, “Sreejesh was barely 18 or 19 years old when I first saw him in the Indian camp and if I remember correctly, he made his international hockey debut when I was captaining. He is a very special player and my heart is filled with joy for his exemplary contribution to Indian hockey.”
