INS Brahmaputra accident: Sailor Sitendra Singh martyred, body found after 3 days


Jhunjhunu. Another brave son of Jhunjhunu has been martyred. Junior sailor Sitendra Singh Sankla, who was martyred in the accident that took place on INS Brahmaputra in Mumbai’s Navy Dockyard on 21 July, was a resident of Dagar village in Jhunjhunu. His body was found by divers from the deep sea today, three days after the accident.

The brave sons of Jhunjhunu district, which is known as the birthplace of soldiers, are risking their lives to protect the country. Recently, two soldiers of the district were martyred while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Now another soldier from Dangar village of Chidawa has been martyred while serving the country.

Accident in INS Brahmaputra
On 21 July, a fire broke out in INS Brahmaputra which was parked for maintenance at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai (Maharashtra). According to officials, when this accident happened, the multi-role frigate was undergoing repair work at the Naval Dockyard. A junior sailor from Dangar in Jhunjhunu district was martyred in the accident. 23-year-old martyr Jawan Sitendra Singh Sankhla, son of Purna Singh Sankhla, was a resident of Dangar village in Chidawa tehsil of Jhunjhunu district.

Divers retrieved the body
Pawan Singh Sankhla, uncle of Navy Jawan Satyendra Singh Sankhla, said that after the accident of INS Brahmaputra on Sunday, 21st July, the next day Navy officials informed that Satyendra Singh Sankhla is missing since the accident. He is being searched for. On Wednesday, 24th July at 3 am, the body of Satyendra Singh Sankhla was found by Navy divers.

The body will be brought to the village on Thursday morning
After the fire incident, INS Brahmaputra tilted to one side. The fire on the ship could be extinguished after 16 hours. At the time of the accident, about 300 officers and other employees were present on INS Brahmaputra. All were evacuated safely. But Jhunjhunu soldier Satinder Singh was missing. Satinder Singh’s body will first be brought to Delhi and then to his native village Dangar by road by 10 am on Thursday. Martyr Satinder Singh Sankhla will be cremated with military honors in Dangar. A Tiranga Yatra will be taken out on Thursday morning in honor of the martyr.

Was recruited in the Navy in 2018
Sitender Singh Sankhla joined the Navy as a sailor in 2018. Just 3 months ago in March, his cousin died in an accident. Sitender Singh had come to the village then. The villagers said that Sitender was very friendly and cheerful. His family consists of father Purna Singh and mother Prem Devi, who live in the village itself. Livelihood depends on farming. Sitender has an elder brother Manendra Singh, who is a teacher in a private educational institution in Jodhpur.
