Winter Games International Olympic Committee: The International Olympic Committee decided to award the 2030 Winter Olympic Games to the French Alps and the 2034 Winter Olympic Games to Salt Lake City in the US. France has been given the hosting rights on the basis of certain conditions. French President Emmanuel Macron assured the International Olympic Committee that any government formed after the 2024 Summer Olympic Games are over will fulfill all the conditions related to the event. These have not been signed yet.

France has hosted the Winter Olympics three times so far

After the formation of the new government in France, whoever becomes the Prime Minister will have to sign these conditions. The IOC has set a deadline of October 1 for this. The IOC members accepted his assurance and voted in favor of handing over the hosting to France. 84 members voted in favor of France hosting while four members voted against it. Seven members did not participate in the voting. Macron said that we thank you for showing faith in us. We will fully respect what we have decided. France was the only country to bid to host these games. France has previously hosted the Winter Olympic Games three times in 1924, 1968 and 1992.

Salt Lake City got the hosting of Winter Olympics after 32 years

The IOC members then also approved Salt Lake City’s bid to host the 2034 Winter Games. Salt Lake City will host these games after a gap of 32 years. Earlier, it hosted the Winter Olympic Games for the first time in 2002. Last year, the IOC gave exclusive negotiating rights to Salt Lake City to strengthen its claim. After this, Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah, was left as the only city in the race to host. Those who bid on behalf of Salt Lake City included Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and alpine ski great Lindsey Vonn.
