Bangalore: BJP MLAs in Karnataka were seen carrying pillows and blankets inside the Assembly today. They were also seen eating food here. BJP MLAs are demanding a discussion on the MUDA issue. They will continue their protest in the House tonight and will spend the night here. Due to the uproar in the Assembly today, the proceedings have been adjourned till July 25.

Mysuru Urban Development Authority plot allotment case

Let us tell you that the Karnataka unit of BJP on Wednesday announced that it will hold a ‘day and night’ dharna in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council over not allowing discussion on the alleged fraud in allotment of plots by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati is also among those who received the plot. The opposition was not allowed to discuss the issue in both the houses today. The session of the legislature will end on Friday.

Accused of looting Rs 4,000 crore

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok said, “Congress has 136 MLAs. When we brought an adjournment motion on the looting of Rs 4,000 crore in the Muda scam, the government got scared and is running away from the discussion. They have passed many important bills including the Finance Bill without discussion. This government is cowardly, they do not have the courage to answer the Muda allegations in the House.” He told reporters here that if the government had any self-respect, it should have said in the House that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had acquired 14 plots legally and his supporters did the same. He said, “This is a scam of Rs 4,000 crore. More than one lakh square feet of land of Dalits has been looted. We wanted to raise this issue, we were not allowed. The Speaker’s conduct in favour of the ruling party is condemnable.

Government accused of running away from discussion

Condemning this conduct of the ruling party and the speaker to suppress the voice of the opposition, we announce day and night protests. All our MLAs and MLCs will protest day and night against this government.” State BJP president and MLA B Y Vijayendra also said in the Assembly and the Legislative Council, ”We will protest all night to ensure that injustice is not done to Dalits, the land given to the Chief Minister’s family and more than 5,000 illegally allotted plots are taken back.” He accused the Chief Minister of running away from discussing the Muda scam by not giving it an opportunity to discuss it. He said, ”If he had the courage, he should have told the Speaker to allow a discussion, the opposition is being suppressed by not allowing a discussion.” Meanwhile, amid uproar in the Assembly by the opposition’s insistence on holding a discussion on the Muda scam, four bills introduced by the Chief Minister – Finance Bill on the supplementary budget proposal of Rs 8573.72 crore, GST (Amendment) Bill, Irrigation (Amendment) Bill and Municipality and Other Laws Bill – were passed.
