new Delhi . At least one in four (26 percent) organizations in India experienced a ransomware attack in the past year, up from the global figure of 21 percent. This information has been given in a new report.
According to a new research by Thales, 30 percent of these Indian organizations have experienced a significant impact on operations.
Ashish Saraf, VP and Country Director, Thales India, said in a statement, “As the pandemic continues to impact both our business and personal lives, expectations of a ‘return’ to pre-pandemic conditions are limited. As organizations around the world continue to face challenges in keeping their data secure, our findings suggest that urgent action is needed by businesses to develop more robust cybersecurity strategies.
“With 26 percent of organizations surveyed from India experiencing ransomware attacks, it is critical that businesses implement a strong security strategy based on discovery, protection and control,” Saraf said.
First observed in the late 1980s with the PC cyborg virus, the frequency and impact of ransomware attacks has now intensified due to the rise of cryptocurrencies as the preferred ransomware payment method.
In fact, the 2022 Thales Data Threat Report, conducted by 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence, which includes more than 2,700 IT decision-makers worldwide, found that a fifth (22 percent) of organizations admitted that They have paid for their data or will pay the ransom.
Despite this, 41 percent of respondents globally and 55 percent in India said they have no plans to replace security spending, even with more ransomware impacts.
Additionally, less than half of the respondents (47 percent) in India have implemented a formal ransomware plan, close to the global figure of 48 percent.
