new Delhi . Railways has now started making trains 100% electrified and completely diesel free. Under this, along with the electrification of the railway line, there will be no need for diesel for air-conditioner and lide. In fact, in the backdrop of the Russo-Ukraine war, this move of the railways has become even more important due to the rising oil prices. This change in train coaches by Indian Railways will result in saving of more than Rs 3800 crore annually to the national transporter. Overhead cables were now used only for train operation, but now this medium will also be used for lighting and air conditioning inside trains. Presently Indian Railways has converted 1586 trains (992 rakes) from End on Generation (EOG) to Head on Generation (HOG).
Senior railway official G.K. According to Bansal, “The move will reduce CO emissions by about 5.8 lakh tonnes per annum, as well as save Rs 3854 crore per annum in terms of saving on expensive imported diesel.”
Its implementation was completed in February 2022. According to Bansal, the total cost of the HOG system was only Rs 60 crore and is completely indigenous.
However, Delhi Railway Division has also become completely diesel free now. The electrification work of Noli-Shamal-Tapri rail line and Sonipat-Gohana railway line has been completed. The Chief Safety Commissioner has given permission to run trains with electric locomotives on both these sections. With this, it has become the first division of Northern Railway to have 100% electrification. This will not only increase the speed of trains and goods trains, but will also help in environmental protection.
Soon the movement of trains between Delhi and Saharanpur with electric locomotives will start. With the start of movement of trains with electric locomotives, trains and goods trains passing through Muzaffarnagar-Meerut City-Ghaziabad can be sent through this railway line. This will help in reducing the pressure on the Saharanpur-Meerut City-Ghaziabad rail section. Officials say that the number of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains between Delhi and Saharanpur can be increased, which will facilitate the passengers.
