Mumbai needed 19 runs to win in the last over but experienced fast bowler Umesh Yadav did wonders. Umesh spent 12 runs giving 2 wickets in the last over of the match and Gujarat won the match by 6 runs. In this way, Mumbai’s streak of losing its first match since 2013 continued. Mumbai Indians have been losing their first match in IPL for the last 11 years. This is Gujarat’s third consecutive win against Mumbai at this venue. In this way, Gill started his captaincy career in IPL with victory. Sai Sudarshan was chosen player of the match.
