In a horrific road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, 6 people died, while more than 20 people were injured. The truck hit the tractor trolley. There was a cry after the accident. With the help of police and villagers, the injured were sent to Gariaband District Hospital. At the same time, 14 seriously injured people have been referred to Raipur. All were returning from Chhathi (birthday) programme. The deceased are all said to be from the same family. This incident has spread mourning in the village.
Gariaband City Kotwali in-charge Satyendra Shyam said that the accident took place near village Kodohardi and Joba village in National Highway-130C, 8 km away from the district headquarters. There is a collision between a truck and a tractor. Chanda Bai (20), father Dushyant Dhruv, Hirai Bai (65), Prem Bai (50), Kosh Bai (50), Kaushalya Dhruv (36) and Ramanteen Bai (40) died in the accident. More than 20 people aboard the tractor trolley have been injured, in which 14 seriously injured have been referred to Raipur after first aid. The driver of the truck is also serious. Women and children are among the injured. The deceased are all said to be from the same family.
Villages were returning from Chhath program
According to the information received from the police, all the injured are residents of Majrakatta village. A relative of Dushyant Dhruv, the former sarpanch of Majarkatta, had a Chatthi (birthday) program on Tuesday in village Mohalai. 40 people came in a tractor. They were returning after the program, when the speeding truck hit the village Kodohardi and near Joba village. The collision was so strong that the tractor-trolley blew up. The driver of the truck was also trapped in the vehicle, which was pulled out after a lot of effort. In the night, other police officers including the SP had also reached the spot.
2 lakh assistance to the next of kin of the deceased
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The CM has given instructions for better treatment to the seriously injured. On receiving information about the accident on Tuesday night, Gariaband Collector Namrata Gandhi had instructed the CMHO to provide better medical facilities. The injured are undergoing treatment in the capital Raipur and Gariaband Hospital. At the same time, the police have taken up the matter by establishing a case. After the accident, there has been mourning in Majrakatta village.
