New Delhi: A big update has come in the teacher recruitment scam case in West Bengal. To save the jobs of 24 thousand teachers, Mamata government of Bengal has reached the Supreme Court and challenged the decision of Calcutta High Court. The TMC government of West Bengal has demanded from the Supreme Court to stay the decision of the High Court. Mamta government has said in its petition that the High Court’s decision will create a big void in schools.
The Mamata government of West Bengal is challenging in the Supreme Court the decision to cancel about 24,000 appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff made in 2016. In the petition before the top court, the state government has alleged that the High Court arbitrarily canceled the appointments on the basis of oral arguments, as well as in the absence of any affidavit on record. The state government has demanded a stay on the High Court’s decision. The government has said that this decision was given in ‘complete disregard’ of the facts. This will create a huge void in schools.
In fact, the Calcutta High Court on Monday canceled all the appointments made through the selection process of State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in state government-run and government-aided schools in West Bengal and declared it ‘invalid’. The High Court had declared teacher recruitment illegal and ordered 24,000 candidates to return the salary received after illegal recruitment.
Let us tell you that earlier Mamata Banerjee herself had said that the decision of the High Court is illegal and her government will challenge it in the Supreme Court. At the same time, West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) Chairman Siddharth Majumdar also said on Monday that he will challenge the decision of the Calcutta High Court to cancel all the appointments made through the teacher recruitment examination in 2016. The High Court also directed the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) to start a new appointment process.
