Tuni/Chakrata. The precious forest wealth was burnt to ashes due to the fierce fire in the Bawar range and surrounding forests belonging to the Chakrata Forest Division for the last two days. The Forest Department officials, who are responsible for the protection of the reserved and civil soyam forests during the fire season, are not even picking up the phones of the villagers and public representatives. The flames of the fierce forest fire have reached the apple orchards of many villagers of the area. Due to which there has been a stir in the entire area.
The Bawar Range Daragad, Molta Range Chatra, Deoghar Range Tuni and Rikhnad Range Nada, belonging to Chakrata Forest Division, have maximum pine forests. In the fire season, there is a big challenge to save the reserved and civil soyam forests from fire. Forest department officials spend lakhs of rupees every time in the fire season to deal with the fire. Despite this, forest wealth is being damaged on a large scale due to forest fires. In this sequence, there has been a fierce fire in the Bawar range and other nearby forests belonging to the Chakrata Forest Division for the last two days. The priceless forest wealth is burning smoke, but the forest department’s team was completely unsuccessful in extinguishing the fire. There is no other option left with the responsible officers and fire personnel of the department.
Villagers say that the flames spread from the forest of Bawar-Deoghar range have reached apple orchards in Ovaraseer, Kheda Hartad in Mundhol and other nearby villages. More than two hundred fruit-bearing trees of some other gardeners including the prominent gardener and former JIP president Chaman Singh, Mundhol resident Sayana Suratram Joshi were also destroyed by burning. Villagers said that the forest department’s team’s activity was not seen to extinguish the fire that had been going on for two days in the forest. If the fire is not controlled in time, the villagers will face the challenge of saving the apple orchards.
Local public representatives have directly held the forest department officials responsible for this. It is alleged that the DFO and other officers of Chakrata Forest Division are not even picking up the phone calls of the villagers. People are angry with this attitude of forest department officials.
On the other hand, seeing the seriousness of the matter, Chief Conservator of Forests, Garhwal Dr. Dheeraj Pandey has summoned DFO Chakrata to report the matter. The Chief Conservator of Forests said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in the matter. CCF has directed DFO Chakrata to douse the forest fire immediately.
