Supaul. The big news is from Supaul in Bihar where a part of the country’s largest road bridge being built on the Kosi River has collapsed. It is being told that the garters of pillars 50, 51 and 52 of the bridge have fallen on the ground. Many people are reported to have been injured in this incident. Let us tell you that India’s largest road bridge is being constructed between Bakour in Supaul and Bheja Ghat in Madhubani.
Let us tell you that the construction of the country’s longest (10.2 km) Mahasetu, being built between Bakour in Supaul district and Bheja in Madhubani district, is going on at a fast pace. This Mahasetu is being constructed with approaches at a cost of Rs 1199 crore 58 lakh from the Union Ministry of Transport and Highways. In this, only the bridge is being constructed with Rs 1051.3 crore, which is being prepared by a work agency. This includes Gammon Engineers and Contractors Private Limited and M/s Trans Rail Lighting Private Limited (Joint Venture).
The time to complete the construction of this bridge was fixed by August 2023, which is now targeted to be completed by the end of 2024. Till now 56 percent work of the bridge has been completed. There will be a total of 171 pillars of which more than 166 pillars have been completed. A total of three kilometers of approach road is being constructed in this bridge. In which 2.1 km approach road is to be constructed from Bakour side and about 1 km approach road from Bheja side.
