‘In the locality where there were 100 Hindus, today there are only 5 Hindu houses.’
When India TV Editor in Chief Rajat Sharma asked him what memories he had and what was the atmosphere of Hyderabad at that time? Responding to this, Madhavi Lata said that whenever there was a festival. So at that time, whether it was a Muslim or Hindu festival, everyone used to celebrate their festivals with great joy. He said that I don’t know whether the road looked big when I was very young or the road was actually big. Today, after so many years, when I go out on the same road, I find that the house has come up on the road. In the locality where there were 100 Hindus, today there are only 5 Hindu houses.
‘She would be startled by any sound’
Referring to another incident, Madhavi Lata said, ‘Yes, I agree that during the communal riots that took place during 1980-1990, we used to feel scared throughout the night. I was very young. Every man in the house, including the elders, had to stand guard with a stick and the women of the house had to keep a bundle of chillies ready in their hands. Don’t know who might come from a different place at midnight. If 10-15 people would come and break heads, anyone would wake up startled by the sound. The truth after so many years is that then there were communal rights and now there are political rights.
