New Delhi. In a significant progress towards India’s renewable energy goals, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has successfully commissioned a massive 551 MW solar capacity at Khavra, Gujarat. This achievement is a significant moment for AGEN, India’s largest renewable energy company and the second largest solar PV developer globally. AGEN’s achievement at Khawra is remarkable, achieved within a very short period of 12 months since the commencement of work on the RE Park. This journey began with the development of essential infrastructure including roads and connectivity, as well as the creation of a self-sustaining social ecosystem. Notably, AGEN transformed the rugged and barren terrain of the Rann of Kutch into a habitable environment for its 8,000-person workforce.
Looking ahead, AGEN has ambitious plans for the Khavra RE Park, which aims to develop 30 GW of renewable energy capacity within the next five years. Once completed, the park will stand as the largest renewable energy installation globally.
The impact of Khawra RE Park is huge, with the potential to power approximately 16.1 million homes annually. AGEL’s proven expertise, strong supply chain network and technical prowess position the company uniquely to launch this record-setting giga-scale project, setting new standards in the clean energy sector worldwide.
The area’s abundant wind and solar resources make it an ideal location for such large-scale renewable energy development. AGEN’s extensive studies and deployment of innovative solutions have not only accelerated the growth of the plant but also contributed to the establishment of an indigenous and sustainable supply chain.
The expected annual contribution of a 30 GW RE plant is staggering:
- Production of approximately 81 billion units of clean electricity
- Providing electricity to 16.1 million homes
- Creating over 15,200 green jobs
- Avoiding 58 million tons of CO2 emissions
To put emissions avoidance into perspective - equivalent to the carbon absorbed by 2,761 million trees
- Avoidance of use of 60,300 tonnes of coal
- 12.6 million cars are being taken off the roads
Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group, expressed pride in the achievements of AGEN, saying, “Adani Green Energy is building one of the world’s most comprehensive renewable energy ecosystems for solar and wind.” He emphasized AGEN’s commitment to setting global standards and being a leader in implementing giga-scale renewable energy projects. This milestone underlines the Adani Group’s dedication towards India’s clean energy transition journey, which aligns with the country’s ambitious goals to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and strive for carbon neutrality.
